winner of the Wiltshire Family Attraction of the Year Award, Cholderton Rare
Breeds Farm and Rabbit World makes a perfect day out for any animal lover. http://www.rabbitworld.co.uk/home.cfm This
picturesque farm, near Salisbury, is a living museum of Britain's farm animal
heritage while Rabbit World, showing over 50 varieties from giant to dwarf,
adds all the "aaahh factor" you could possibly want. The farm boasts
13 magnificent ancient breeds of sheep, including the seaweed-eating North
Ronaldsay, eight breeds of pig including the Gloucester Old Spot, 18 breeds of
poultry as well as ponies, goats and cows. And the best part of it all is that
you can get up close and personal with the animals. A
highlight has to be the famous pig racing, while tractor and trailer rides,
beautiful gardens, adventure and toddlers play grounds and picnic areas make
this a great destination for a family day out.
The
family-owned farm is a Rare Breeds Survival Trust Approved Centre, one of only
19 in the UK. First opened in 1987, there are superb views of Salisbury
Cathedral and at only four miles to Stonehenge, it's ideally placed for a full
day of fun.
The
farm also has a successful breeding programme, which is helping to save animals
including Exmoor ponies, which are rarer than the Giant Panda. FACT

We visited on Monday 11th September and had a
fantastic time, all the animals were great and it was a very hands on
experience. We particularly enjoyed rabbit world, our children were very
excited to see rabbits (British giant) the size of dog (Large dogs).
Surprisingly the entrance fee was very cheap!!! Marc Harvey My family and I are very into PIGS. We were delighted to be able
to actually get in to the pig pen with the smaller breed of pigs; the larger
were a little scary and very huge so we just looked! My son Jamie loved the pig
racing. Sadly my pig lost but Jamie and lily’s pigs did very well. I would
recommend this farm to anyone; we had a fab day and will be returning for
Jamie’s birthday with a few friends. Hayley Eaches |
