As I am sure you are all aware, the long summer holiday season (Northern hemisphere) is rapidly approaching. For many families the night-mare of juggling jobs, child care and pet care is about to begin.  We have already had a number of family’s e-mail us asking about holiday/vacation care for their pets and gardens.

Working as a pet carer

If you have not been a pet carer before please read this section and consider your suitability for such a rewarding yet responsible job.

 

To be a pet sitter you must be reliable, trustworthy and experienced at caring for pets. The well being of someone else's pet is in your hands and such a responsibility should not be taken lightly.
The four main services are:

  • Pet sitting in your home (if suitable).
  • Pet sitting in the owner's home.
  • Day-care.
  • Dog walking.

There are various other associated services, such as delivery/collection, grooming, training etc. You can choose to "sit" on occasional weekends, or make it a full time occupation with many regular clients.
Most countries/states have their own body for setting standards in private pet care. Such a body would normally provide advice on all forms of pet care from boarding kennels to dog walking.
