Dr Richard Halvorsen and
Babyjabs
I have worked as a GP in
central London for 20 years, and have
developed a keen interest in
childhood immunization, talking and
writing widely on the
subject in the media. This culminated in the
publication of my book, The
Truth about Vaccines in 2007. The book is
available at major
bookstores and at Amazon:
The Truth about Vaccines
For many years I have
offered parents the choice of single measles,
mumps and rubella vaccines
for those who have concerns over the MMR
vaccine. Parents have been
grateful for the opportunity to make an
informed choice, and to be
able to discuss childhood immunisation in
an atmosphere free from the
coercion and patronising some had
previously experienced. Many
parents requested alternatives to the
baby vaccines given at 2, 3
and 4 months. In order to try to meet
this need, and to offer
parents more choice, I started Babyjabs, a
children's immunisation
service that offers parents a choice of
single and small combination
vaccines, as free from additives as
possible, to complement the
standard NHS schedule. I believe that we
are the only service of this
kind in the country. The NHS schedule
may not the best for
everybody; for example there is evidence that
delaying vaccination reduces
the risk of contracting diseases such as
asthma and hay fever.
I am not anti-vaccine, but
do believe that the government's attitude
on vaccines is rather
dogmatic, and sometimes unhelpful to those
parents seeking impartial
information to make the best decisions for
their baby. Details of the services we offer can be found
