Crumpet's for everyone

We have lived just off Northcote Road for about 7 years, we have 2 young children and we wanted to create somewhere where our friends would like to spend time, with or without the children in tow.  With this in mind we have space for buggies, a play area at the back for the children and a loo that can cope with a small family.  But we also have a grown up area at the front where you can come on your own and read a magazine, or watch the world go by.

Our tea

After extensive investigation we chose a small tea merchants based in Blackfriars who have helped us to create our own blends of tea.  We wanted a limited range of distinctive teas that we could serve in our tea shop and sell to our customers to take home.

We serve loose leaf tea in the tea shop, where we can ensure that the tea is brewed for the correct time (we have found that 4 minutes is best).  We make our tea in cafetieres to stop the tea from stewing once it is correctly brewed.  We sell both loose leaf tea and leaf tea bags to take home.  Our leaf tea bags contain proper tea leaves, not just “tea dust”, so take 3 minutes to brew.

Our coffee

We are also very proud of our coffee.  We use Union Coffee beans.

Our food

We wanted to serve tea-time food of the best quality. We have a strict “no margarine” policy!

Starting up in Northcote Road we are spoilt for choice for local suppliers of excellent food.  We get our bread, scones and muffins from the Lighthouse, ham from Hennesseys, cheese from Hamish Johnson and our fruit and veg from the inimitable Ronnie.  Two local mothers make our cakes.

It is not all local.  Our brownies, flapjacks and shortbread are made in a cowshed in Dorset.  Our jams and pickles are made in a barn in Yorkshire.  Our ginger beer and lemonade come from Luscombe Farm in Devon.
